Mary Beth Tinker will be visiting Baker High School on October 1st as part of her 2015 Tinker Tour! Ms. Tinker was part of a landmark U.S. Supreme Court case in 1969. At that time, she, and a small group of fellow students wore black armbands to school to mourn the dead in the Vietnam War and call for a true at Christmas. The school suspended Ms. Tinker and the other students for wearing the armbands. The U.S. Supreme Court sided with the students, declaring that neither teachers nor students "shed their Constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate.”
